Joy
Mench is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science and the
Director of the Center for Animal Welfare at the University of California,
Davis. She conducts research on the behavior and welfare of farm,
laboratory, and companion animals, and teaches courses on animal welfare
and the ethics of animal use. She has published numerous papers and
articles on these and related topics. She serves on many committees
and boards related to farm and laboratory animal welfare, including
the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee of the Food Marketing Institute/National
Council of Chain Restaurants and the Council on Accreditation of the
Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal
Care, International.
