Jim
Edwards received his Veterinary Degree and Business Studies Diploma from Massey
University in New Zealand.
Jim
was in rural veterinary practice for 14 years before joining the New Zealand Ministry
of Agriculture in 1986. He quickly developed an active interest in international
trade and was the National Manager for six years before establishing his own international
consultancy.
Jim
is now the Principal of World Veterinary Consultants and has formed a working
association with a number of other international consultants to enable the company
to offer a wide range of services.
Dr
Edwards has had many roles in the New Zealand Veterinary Association and was President
for two terms between 1992 and 1994.
He
was first elected to the World Veterinary Association as representative for Asia
and Oceania in 1996; elected President for the period 1999-2002 and is now the
Immediate Past-President.
Dr
Edwards was recently appointed by the Minister of Agriculture to the Veterinary
Council of New Zealand which is the regulatory body that maintains veterinary
standards for the benefit of the public.
Jim
has been a lead speaker at two international seminars on animal welfare in Bangalore,
India, in 2002 and 2003.
